Cast a QR Portal in Canva

~ Post updated in August 2026 after Canva implemented including their logo in the free QR codes. Includes work around.

The days of forcing your audience to hunt for a link (or worse, struggle to type one out) are officially cursed. If a link isn’t clickable, it isn’t converting. That’s a spell we need to break immediately.

But what of your business cards, flyers, and physical trinkets? It’s time to bridge the gap between the physical and digital by casting a QR code. It’s a direct, magical gateway that whisks your people from your paper goods straight to your website, shop, or latest project ~ no typing required.

The Ritual: Casting Your Portal

Step 1: Open Your Design

Pull up the canvas in Canva where you wish to manifest your new portal.

Step 2: Access the App Apothecary

On the left-hand sidebar, scroll down to the 9th icon labeled Apps and give it a click.

Step 3: Summon the Portal Tool

In the search bar, type “QR code.” You’ll see a ton of options appear, but I personally recommend the very first one simply called Dynamic QR Codes. It’s reliable, free, and perfectly suited for our spellwork.

Step 4: Configure Your Code

Once you open the app, choose a shape or pattern to make up your QR code.

Next, enter your destination URL, and optionally name your code and select your preferred corner style.

You can also update the colors of the code right in the top toolbar to match your brand palette.

Step 5: Generate the Gateway

Hit generate to place your code onto your canvas, and drag and drop it exactly where you want it.

Step 6: Infuse Your Brand Magic (and Hide the Canva logo!)

A quick note on the free and pro tier: Canva now automatically includes their logo in the middle of free QR codes unless you upgrade to a business account. But don’t worry ~ here is where a little Lemonlade magic comes in to work around it!

• First, go to Elements and search for a circle shape. Add it to your design, match its background color to your canvas or QR background, and size it so it covers right over that Canva logo.

• Now, you can add whatever shape, symbol, or brand mark you want on top! You could drop in your own logo, icon, or use a specific symbol to describe the link (like a website symbol for your main URL, an Instagram icon for your socials, or a text symbol depending on where your code takes people).

and voila! A QR code ready to work as hard as you do.

A Note of Caution: While this specific app within Canva will never charge you to keep your portal active, please be wary of external websites that claim to offer “advanced” QR services. Many will charge you a fee just to keep your code live.
